Thanks for the info. I am in the process of redesigning my site but dont want to lose the rankings I already have. I never considered the need to monitor 404 errors so thanks for the tip.

very good tips!

Adding base href tag goes a long way for fixing broken links.

Running Xenu would also help identifying any broken links.

This a really important point. I designed our main company website a few years ago and it's starting to look a little dated. But, just about all our business comes from this site and I daren't risk destroying that.

Hello,
If you move the links to a robot-friendly navigation, I would not expect it to have a negative effect on rankings. A CSS-only navigation shouldn't be a problem for search engines to follow.

Nice piece of information. I am launching a redesign of my 2 years old website. In my old website theme i have a navigation menu on the left hand of my website 140x1500 pixels with almost 50-60 links. Which means this menu is using a lot of space in my theme. I am thinking to get all those links in a (css only)dropdown menu on the top of my theme. Should i go with the change or would it hurt my current search engine rankings.

Hi!

Great post - Thanks for putting this together!
I’m curious whether you have a similar website re-launch checklist which is more up to date?

Cheers,
Mike
