You built it, but did they come? If you’ve ever wondered how to get listed in the major search engines’ shopping sites, these links will help you.
Search Froogle, Google’s shopping engine, here: http://froogle.google.com/
Here’s the Froogle FAQ: http://froogle.google.com/froogle/intl/en_us/about.html
If you’d like to sell something on Froogle, you can do so for free. Upload your information here: https://www.google.com/froogle/merchants/base.html
Yahoo
Search Yahoo! shopping here: http://shopping.yahoo.com/
To list your products, you have some choices:
- You can set up your own Yahoo! store through Yahoo! Merchant Solutions. There are three levels available to you, each with varying levels of fees for setup, hosting, and transactions. Learn about it and sign up here: http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/shopsb/index.php
- Or, you can use the pay-per-click option called “Product Submit.” You can use this service whether or not you have your own Yahoo! store. Learn about it and sign up here: http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/shopsb/index.php
MSN
Search MSN’s shopping site here: http://shopping.msn.com/
MSN is less than forthcoming about how to list your products. To get started selling, you can read the FAQ “How do I merchandise on MSN shopping,” here: http://shopping.msn.com/content/shp/?ctid=109 [editorial note: while we frown upon their typo’d and too-buggy help section, we can’t help but applaud their use of “merchandise” as a verb.] You can’t sign up without contacting a representative, so you might want to skip the vague FAQ and contact a rep here: http://advertising.msn.com/contactus/contactus.
MSN says that you can sell products in its gift guides and seasonal shopping pages via a pay-per-click setup. Search it here: http://shopping.msn.com/content/shp/?ctid=200 but you’ll still have to contact a rep (http://advertising.msn.com/contactus/contactus) to get started.
Ask
Ask’s shopping results come from PriceGrabber.com. Search it here: http://ask2.pricegrabber.com/
You can sign up to sell your products on PriceGrabber.com here: http://www.pricegrabber.com/user_sales_jump.php. There are no setup fees, but PriceGrabber grabs a commission for every sale.
Independent shopping portals: Shopzilla, Bizrate.com, Shopping.com, Nextag.com, Pricegrabber
These independent shopping sites offer many shopping amenities and a user experience that is comparable to - or better than - the larger services. Their market share is often larger than Froogle, Yahoo! Search, or MSN. For much more information and details about independent shopping sites, see SearchEngineLand: Kicking The Tires on Shopping Search, Part II.
