I am happy to embarrass myself if it helps to enlighten others and to draw attention to the misconceptions newbies make. I was looking for a good, low competition keyword for my niche (copywriting) and came across 'content for the web'. I've now realized WHY it is low competition. It's all very well if people are searching in quotes for that exact phrase "content for the web" (in fact, I come up on page 8 with that phrase) but if, like most people, they are searching without quotes then I have no chance. Why? Well, I've realized that Google omits common words like 'for and the', leaving me competing for the highly popular words 'content' and 'web'.
