Ask the Experts: How Do I Manually Ping Google Blog Search?

Q: Help! I must be the last person on earth to be creating a blog without using standard blog authoring software tools. I've been told that I need to manually ping Google Blog Search, Technorati, and Weblogs to let them know of updates to my blog. How do I do that?

A: Manually pinging blog search engines is a great way to let them know that your blog has been updated. Authoring tools do this automatically, but if you're using a home-grown authoring tool (or none at all), you may need to manually ping the engines. Here's how:

Google Blog Search

Navigate to the Google Blog Search Ping Service Page and enter your .xml feed URL into the box.

Technorati Blog Search

Navigate to the Technorati Ping Form Page and enter your .xml feed URL.

Weblogs Ping Server

Go to www.weblogs.com and click on the tab labeled "Blogs" and the button labeled "Ping Weblogs.com". Then enter your Blog home page URL and XML feed location into the form.
